Judging by the additions to this category, you might think that we'd never dined out over the past months or has it been years? I guess we have been rather silent, thanks to COVID and the many changes that it has made in the restaurant industry. At times, it just seemed a little unfair to evaluate a restaurant and its offerings. Other times it just seemed impossible, what with staff turnover, shortages, and the like. It was too unfair.
Yet, a visit to Lincoln City's Otis Cafe radically changed our thinking. Here was a restaurant filled to capacity both times we visited it. The diners were well served by a friendly and chatty staff. There seemed to be a camaraderie among the wait staff and the patrons.
The food came fast, and the portions were exceedingly plentiful. A lady at a nearby table incredulously announced when her plate was delivered, "I thought I ordered half an order." "Yes," came the reply, "this IS half an order." I overheard another table raving about the homemade bread and then ordering 4 loaves of 2 different kinds of bread to take home with them. Other patrons were mentioning the German potatoes and the marionberry pie as their favorites. My sense is that you just can't go wrong at this diner!
And, how did we hear about the Otis Cafe? Well, the short version of the story is that Salishan Coastal Lodge's Provisions Market stops serving breakfast at 11:00. We arrived at the restaurant at 11:03 and were a little down in the mouth about our bad luck. The counter person smiled and whispered to us: "Go to the Otis Cafe - it serves an amazing breakfast."
She was correct and so was the comment of another diner: "If there is a breakfast heaven, this is it!!!"
