Can it really be true? It has to be, because we captured these lovely coastal rhodies in full bloom on December 3rd. The camera doesn't lie, and we don't either!
We never cease to be amazed by the intensity of life around us.
But, I digress and can't leave this post without joyfully regaling you, dear reader, with tales of overflowing mushroom baskets. Consider pathways littered with Golden Chanterelles and scattered with Pigs Ears here in Port Orford South to Brookings, of Cauliflowers embracing the roots and bases of trees to our North as well as Candy Caps just waiting to be dried so they can enchant us with their maple syrup fragrance, and yes, even an occasional red-orange lobster still popping up. Matsutake seem to be slow to arrive, but with the cooler weather, some commercial pickers are optimistic that even they will soon be making a vigorous appearance.
As for me, this afternoon I am anything but vigorous. In fact, I'm sitting back in my comfy recliner, dry and warm, astonished to find myself embedded in this land of plenty and indebted to the mushroom gods for their generosity. Yes, it certainly is a wonderful life.
Our refuge offers many joys,
not the least of which are rhodies for the holidays.
