It was another splendid day here in the reserve, and we couldn't resist a mushrooming foray on such an exceptional day: blue sky, gentle breezes, temperatures in the low 50's ... there's a lot to love about such conditions late in November on the southern Oregon coast!

Even when preparing a recipe from Sara Moulton's Weeknight Meals program on PBS, we find ourselves gilding the lily with a handful of sliced hedgehogs, the first of the year here in the refuge. We think that Sara will forgive our urge to add the hedgehogs. After all, their lovely color and delicate flavor can enhance any sauce.
