As of September 10th, the chantrelles have been few and far between. After a nice rain in late August (3-1/2” in 36 hours here on our property!), it has been dry, and the few mushrooms we’ve seen have been small and dry. Lobsters, of course, have been out for weeks – not plentiful, but available. We’ve seen no Boletes yet. This has been our experience here on our property so far, which is usually indicative for the whole area, but as always we must remind you that others around the south coast may be finding ‘em. We aren’t – yet!
There's no shortage of slime molds
and other oddities on the forest floor at this time of year.

Reminder about our Fall Forays
Readers who have been considering joining us for a fall foray should contact us at 541.332.0166 or at povertybay_portorford@yahoo.com as available dates remaining are few indeed.
We expect a fine season this fall, but even if the mushrooms aren’t plentiful, we feel sure that all will enjoy themselves and very likely learn some things as well.
So, please – we hate to disappoint people – if this is something you want to do this fall, we need to hear from you soon!
If good fortune smiles on us, we'll encounter both
mushrooms and wild raspberries on our foray.
